If books came with hazard signs, Jerry Goodwin’s latest would be wrapped in yellow tape: Warning—serious personal growth ahead. His provocatively titled debut, DON’T READ THIS YOU MIGHT LEARN SOMETHING! ESPECIALLY ABOUT YOURSELF, is not your average self-help book—it’s a no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is guide to figuring out what actually matters in your life.
Through sharp wit, disarming truth-telling, and laugh-out-loud honesty, Goodwin peels back the layers of human nature—tackling ego, power, greed, love, lust, and all the mess in between. He doesn’t lecture from a pedestal; he walks beside you, flashlight in hand, cracking jokes as he uncovers the emotional cobwebs most of us pretend aren’t there.
What makes the book shine is its interactive flavor. You’re not just a reader; you’re a participant. You’re challenged to decide who you are and what you stand for—through clever exercises, bold observations, and pointed questions. Are you more ethical or evil? Prideful or passionate? Loyal or lustful? Goodwin invites you to dig deep, but not without a sense of humor. After all, self-awareness doesn’t have to be a chore—it can be a trip.
Goodwin weaves in everything from ancient gladiators to Sigmund Freud, Michael Jackson to Tupac, and even a shout-out to that one “wet dream” you’ve never admitted to. This book isn’t scared to get real—and that’s exactly why it works. It hits where it hurts, makes you laugh when you least expect it, and leaves you with that rare gift: a fresh understanding of yourself.
About the Author: Jerry Goodwin
Jerry Goodwin was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1951 and raised in Chicago, Illinois from the age of one. From the heart of the Windy City to the classrooms and athletic fields of Atlanta, Georgia, Jerry has lived a life steeped in service, education, and quiet strength. After graduating from college, he worked for AT&T, but it wasn’t long before he was pulled toward his true purpose—mentoring youth. He spent over 40 years as a history teacher, school counselor, and coach, with more than three decades devoted to leading young athletes across a range of sports.
Goodwin is a self-proclaimed introvert with a powerful message: you are not alone in your doubts. He knows firsthand how easy it is to lose direction, which is why he wrote this book—to speak to anyone still searching for meaning, self-worth, or their place in the world. His belief is simple but strong: no matter your circumstances, if you don’t give up, you will discover your greatness. That’s the legacy Jerry wants to leave behind—one of hope, resilience, and purpose. He hopes this book will be a mirror, a compass, and a companion for anyone bold enough to take the journey inward.
